Despite beating Ajax, Real Madrid fans panic after hearing this news

A late goal from Marco Asensio earned Real Madrid a controversial 1-2 victory at Ajax in what was a scintillating 90 minutes of football in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday night at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam.

A successful season in front of goal for Karim Benzema continued on Wednesday evening as he scored against Ajax but it wasn’t all good news for Real Madrid fans after the end of the games as their star striker and current highest goal scorer this was withdrawn with discomfort for Marco Asensio. Thankfully for Real Madrid, the injury did not seem too serious and the good news is they do not have a Champions League game next week, allowing for some recovery time.

Benzema hasn’t quite been at his highest level in the last couple of games, namely at the Camp Nou and Wanda Metropolitano, and while he was good and effective he wasn’t exquisite or lethal. In Amsterdam, though, he was on target again as he found his 19th goal of the season and his fourth in the Champions League after some good work from Vinicius Junior.

Benzema is Madrid’s main asset in attack and he has succeeded Cristiano Ronaldo as the reference point. As things stand, his best goalscoring season at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu came in 2012/13, when he netted 32 times, and that is a record that is within reach for the No.9 this term.

But Ral Madrid fans are hoping to have the French striker play all their games as he is currently in “form of his life”, The former Lyon striker is likely to miss Real Madrid’s next game in the Spanish La Liga as a means to give him time to recover from the knock.

After the game the Frenchman ease the fans pains a little as he address the media regarding his injury and said: “I’m fine, I’m going to rest for a day or two and that’s all.

Send your best wishes to Karim Benzema as he hopes to return back to action on time for Real Madrid ahead of La Liga.. Thanks
