How The Ballon d'Or Was Rigged To Favour Modric

According to Spanish paper Marca, there may have been a lot of irregularities in the voting that saw Luka Modric won the Ballon d’Or after it was revealed that the journalist who voted for Comoros does not exist.

Abdou Boina is listed as having voted on behalf of the island nation, picking Kylian Mbappe, Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Eden Hazard and Mohamed Salahin that order.

However, local outlet Al-watman claims that Boina doesn’t exist and add that the website listed next to his name – albaladcomores.com – closed in 2012. “I thought I was hallucinating when I read that Albalad Comores still existed,” said Toiminou Abdou, a journalist from the African country.

“This publication closed six years ago and there was never a journalist called Abdou Boina there. “We had two sports reporters, Abdoul Youssouf for the French edition and Sharif Ousseine for the Arab edition.” Stepahne Ahamadi, the president of Comoros’ journalists association, also spoke about the issue. “There is no record of anyone called Abdou Boina,” he said.

“I could understand it as a mistake from France Football if the journalist belonged to a certain publication, but this person doesn’t exist.”

There has also been some anger in Comoros about the flag used next to the country’s votes, as the flag used was the official one between 1996 and 2001, before it was modified.

All of this comes after Trinidad and Tobago’s correspondent Lasana Liburd claimed his selections had been used in the wrong order.
