AC MILAN SIGNS IN FORM ANDRE SILVA FOR £35MILLION

Andre Silva completes £35million transfer to AC Milan as he joins the Serie A giants on a five-year deal

Andre Silva has joined AC Milan from Porto for £35million (€40million) on a five-year deal, the Serie A side have confirmed.

Silva, who has drawn interest from Arsenal, was announced by AC Milan on Monday afternoon with a tweet confirming that he is 'officially a red & black player.'

The forward arrived in Milan on Sunday evening and underwent a medical the following morning before completing the transfer - which is worth an initial £33million but could potentially rise to £35million.

Andre Silva smiles as he becomes AC Milan's fourth summer signing so far this window

'I'm very happy to have joined such a prestigious club with such a great history,' Silva told the club's Twitter.

'I can guarantee I will give everything I can to help this club realise their ambitions.'

Silva was shown signing a contract with his new club alongside Milan's general manager Marco Fassone and sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli.

'Andre Silva joined us [Sunday] night in Milan, today he passed his medical and we can now officially consider him a Milan player,' said Fassone.

'I and [sporting director] Massimiliano Mirabelli are really satisfied to have convinced Andre and Porto so quickly. Andre's eyes displayed how much pleasure he has to wear our shirt.'

Silva, who has been handed Milan's No 10 shirt, will link back up with the Portugal national team on Monday night as they prepare for the Confederations Cup.

Arsenal took notice of Silva's progress in 2016-17 but have missed out on the striker - who has joined Vincenzo Montella's side on a deal until June 2022.

The transfer has been orchestrated by the striker's influential agent Jorge Mendes who wants his client featuring in a more competitive division.

Porto are keen to sell players in order to raise money after falling foul of UEFA's Financial Fair Play obligations in the past and therefore are willing to accept a figure that is well below Silva's £53m release clause.

The striker was earlier shown completing a medical at an AC Milan facility in a video also posted to the club's official Twitter account.

Silva was initially spotted on Monday morning, arriving at the La Madonnina clinic ahead of the proposed move.

The 21-year-old offered a wave to photographers on a video captured by Italian journalist Simone Gambino.

The Portugal international will become Milan's fourth signing of the summer already after Mateo Musacchio, Ricardo Rodriguez and Franck Kessie joined.

It signals a change in transfer policy for Milan under their new Chinese owners as they look to compete for titles again after a sixth placed Serie A finish in 2016-17.

Silva scored Portugal's third goal on Friday night as the Euro 2016 champions beat Latvia 3-0 in World Cup qualifying.

The forward netted 16 times in 32 league appearances for Porto this season and has seven goals in eight caps for Portugal since making his senior debut in September.
